Program/Service Notes:
Encourage those who are at risk for Glaucoma to have a dilated eye examination, the most effective way of detecting the disease in its early stages. Anyone at moderate of high risk can be referred to an Ophthalmologist for such an exam. The risk factors used are: age, Glaucoma in one's immediate family, belonging to the racial group most at risk (African American), length of time since experiencing last medical eye care. Those with no insurance are seen without charge. Citizenship or legal residency is required. Those with access to care in other ways (an HMO, VA hospital, etc.) are not eligible.
