One of the most important tenets for a healthcare professional is building a rapport with those they care for, and Advanced Practice Provider Tamara Gorman, APRN, uses that knowledge and her experience to care for people with chronic conditions.
For the past four years she’s helped people manage diabetes, thyroid disease and other hormonal issues, and as the newest endocrinology provider at Sarah Bush Lincoln, she’s happy to offer quality care to the community.
“People who have diabetes or other chronic conditions need someone they can trust to care for them over a long period of time, and I’m excited to offer that help,” Gorman said. “I offer individualized treatment for each person I see to help them be as healthy as possible.”
Being a long-term caretaker and guide for people is an aspect of endocrinology that Gorman enjoys.
Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease, osteoporosis and others require continual monitoring, and Gorman enjoys helping people improve their health.
“I want to get someone back on track with their health and provide the best care. If someone has high blood sugar, for example, I want to get their level back to a normal range,” she said. “It’s very rewarding to see positive progress.”
Gorman, a Paris native, previously worked for SBL as an inpatient nurse from 2016-2020. During that time, she attended Simmons College in Boston and earned her Master’s – Family Nurse Practitioner degree and discovered an interest in endocrinology.
“I did a clinical in endocrinology, and I really enjoyed the people we cared for and the people I worked with,” she said. “I recognized the wide range of endocrinology diseases that people need care for and decided to pursue that specialty.”
Gorman practices at SBL Family Medical Center in Mattoon, Suite 3. She also provides care at SBL Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia every third Thursday of each month.
Gorman is excited to be back at SBL and to get to know the community she cares for. “I really enjoyed my co-workers and the culture at SBL when I worked as a nurse here previously,” Gorman said. “Caring for others is my passion. I’m thrilled to serve the community and help people achieve their health goals.”
