Doug and Tracey McCord of Oblong donated $50,000 to the new Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice House. Plaques recognizing them for their donation will be placed at a nursing and care team station and at the entrance to the commemorative walking path near the hospice house.

Construction on the hospice house will begin in late summer. The SBL Health Foundation, together with a campaign committee, is raising $1 million to help offset costs of construction and $1.5 million to fund an endowment through a campaign called: The Most Important Home You’ll Ever Build. While most insurance companies pay for care in a hospice house, they don’t pay room and board. Earnings from the endowment will be used to help those who struggle to pay for their stay.

“Doug and Tracey are so extremely generous, having supported numerous Sarah Bush Lincoln projects over the years and this most recent gift is a true testament to the many years of dedicated service that Tracey provided as a hospice nurse,” Amy Card, Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation director, said. “With the rising costs of construction materials, the hospice house will be more than $2 million more than first anticipated. This gift will certainly help to provide this beautiful final home to people in the communities that we serve.”
