Linda Keeler of Charleston recently donated $20,000 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation’s campaign:The most important home you’ll ever build, to support the new Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice House. A plaque at the entrance to a private patient suite will recognize Keeler for her generous donation.

“I wanted to donate to this project for so many reasons, including personal ones, as I’ve had loved ones who received care at the end of life in a hospice house,” Keeler explained. “They lived their lives with such dignity, it was important for them to pass away in the same manner. During their stay, it was so comforting and peaceful, not busy and bright like a hospital or nursing home. We couldn’t always be there 24/7, but we knew that for those few hours here and there that we were unable to be present, they were being cared for with such respect. Everything that our family needed was right there for them – for all of us -  and we were so grateful.”

Construction of the hospice house will begin in spring 2022 and is expected to take 10 months to complete. It will be built near the east pond on the north side of the Sarah Bush Lincoln campus.

“When presenting us with this gift, Linda’s heartfelt words regarding her own family’s care in a hospice house speak volumes to the kind and giving person that she is. She made this donation to help provide families with a special place where their loved ones will be cared for with dignity, and where they can gather when time is precious, like her family did,” SBL Vice President of Operations Kim Uphoff said. “We’re so grateful to have her as a member of the SBL Family and we’ll be proud to display her and her late husband’s name in our hospice house when it’s complete.”
