First Neighbor Bank, N.A., recently donated $6,000 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation to support the new hospice house to be built on the Health Center’s main campus. Construction on the 14,470 square foot facility is scheduled to begin in spring 2022. A plaque will be placed on the endowment wall in the family room of the hospice house, recognizing the bank for its generous donation.

“First Neighbor Bank is so supportive of the communities it serves and has donated to Sarah Bush Lincoln for many years,” Amy Card, SBL Foundation director, said. “The bank donates to our campaigns, our events and various other programs throughout the year to help those in need, including the children’s dental program and Peace Meal. This most recent donation to the Hospice House Endowment will help build that fund, ultimately assisting those who can’t afford their stay. First Neighbor’s donation will truly make a difference to families for years to come and we are so grateful.”

While insurance companies pay for care in a hospice house, they don’t pay room and board. Earnings from this endowment will assist those who struggle to pay for their stay in one of the eight private patient suites. Through the Foundation’s campaign: The most important home you’ll ever build, the goal is to raise $1.5 million for the endowment; $1 million to assist with construction costs.

Scott Bland, Senior Vice President of First Neighbor Bank, explained that the bank enthusiastically supports the region’s first hospice house. “Hospice care touches every family at some point and supporting this project aligns perfectly with our community-driven philosophy at First Neighbor. We’re proud to partner with Sarah Bush Lincoln to provide a beautiful, peaceful place where people can spend their last days surrounded by their loved ones. We want what’s best for the people in the communities that we serve, just as Sarah Bush Lincoln does.”
