Online Safety Focus of Presentations

October 26, 2018 11:03 a.m.

Cyber bullying is taking its toll on young people across the country and the local community is not immune to it.

Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Body Electric is hosting multiple presentations on “Being Safe Online” on Nov. 6 and 7 in Charleston, Mattoon and Sullivan schools to students and parents. Presented by Richard Wistocki, the programs focus on cyber bullying and other online dangers.

Wistocki is a cyber crimes detective with more than 30 years of experience, and he educates law enforcement using cutting edge investigative techniques. He will offer parents and students education on responsible digital activity.

He will provide a two-hour presentation to parents and other interested adults at 6 pm, Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Charleston High School auditorium. The topics he will cover include: cyber bullying, online gaming dangers, social media dangers, understanding phone applications, file and video sharing and parenting discussion tips.

Additionally, Wistocki will present to Charleston High School students in two 45-minute sessions at 9:05 am and 10:05 am, and to Charleston Middle School students at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at their respective schools.

He also will present to Mattoon Middle School in one 45-minute session from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., and Sullivan High School and Middle School at 1:30 and 2:45 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at their respective schools.

The presentations are made possible through a grant provided by WomenConnected, a philanthropic giving circle within Sarah Bush Lincoln.

Body Electric is a program for teens that uses the arts to communicate healthy lifestyle choices to their peers.
