Peace Meal Expands to Paris Cafe

June 6, 2014 2:29 p.m.

The Main Street Café in Paris is offering Peace Meal lunches from 10:45 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday at the restaurant at 226 N. Main St., Paris.

The restaurant offers a separate lunch menu from which Peace Meal clients can order lunch. No reservations are necessary, but participants need to purchase a ticket voucher from the restaurant for a suggested donation of $3.50 a meal. Meals can also be ordered “to go,” however, no home delivery service is available.

Peace Meal is a senior nutrition program for people at least 60 years old and their spouses of any age. It provides congregate and home delivered meals to seniors in a fourteen county region and is administered through Sarah Bush Lincoln.

Peace Meal improves the nutritional status of older adults through the provision of meals, nutrition assessment, nutrition education, food safety instruction and information about other community services. Peace Meal was created in 1974 as a result of the Older Americans Act. While partial funding is received from Older Americans Act and Illinois General Revenue Funds, the majority of funds are raised through the generosity of communities and individuals, and the suggested contribution received from clients.

For more information, please contact Peace Meal at 345-1800.
